Where is Team Morris?

Outgoing Mayor Phyllis Morris has been MIA on the campaign trail for weeks now. Since hastily filing her nomination papers on August 11th – a Wednesday- not a peep has been heard save the brief bit of pabulum fed to the Banner.
This isn’t like Morris. We all know she loves a parade – and yet… No fanfare. No media release. No nothing. Just quietly filed the papers after months of speculation – not by us mind you, we knew Morris would be attempting to hang onto her seat.
This is not classic Phyllis. She’d go to the opening of an envelope. Nope. Something’s up. Usually there is a big to do when she announces. As per the last few times, it has been at the last-minute – riding in to save the day. “I am responding to the many many residents who have begged me to run” blah blah blah.
Everyone knows Phyllis hasn’t stopped campaigning since she squeaked past the post to win the 2006 election with less than 50% of the vote.
Which makes the rushed and harried nature of her filing and non-existent campaign presence all the more puzzling. Well, we should say she hasn’t conducted any “official” campaign activities. We’ll leave it to you to decide if recent “Town” initiatives are anything but an attempt to make her look like she’s doing something besides taking credit for doing nothing.
She has filed her papers and yet has no website. No functioning email address or phone number to call. No kick off party. No fundraising event. Again, we should state no “official” fundraising event that we are aware of. Very disorganized.
So what gives? She said recently that she would “begin campaigning” after the summer. Huh? All the other serious candidates for Mayor have been actively engaging the community in the electoral campaign – through websites, through door to door canvassing, through advertisements and, recently, election signs.
What does it say about the incumbent’s attitude towards the race? Either she doesn’t take it seriously or she is so overwhelmed by the support garnered by other candidates that she is in a frantic state.
Either way, it seems that Morris is well on her way out…

There will be a number of opportunities for Team Morris to ramp up. This weekend is the Rib Fest – I am sure you will see her there with BBQ sauce all over her face. Then the following weekend is the Magna Hoedown. I hope to see her when I am at both – she won’t like what I have to say.

There is a billboard-sized “Morris for Mayor” in huge red letters on Morris’ lawn and a u-haul type trailer with Morris for Mayor signs all over it parked in the driveway. There will be nothing subtle about her desperate campaign..we ain’t seen nothing yet…

Not a big surprise to see a couple of Morris for Mayor Signs on the front lawn of the drama queen of Snowball.
Guess it doesn’t matter to her that it is outside of town limits.

I saw the signs on St. Kitts house tonight.
I will be making calls to the King Township bylaw offices 1st thing Monday.

Morris hasn’t followed many rules for the lasr four years, you expect her to start now?

AT least we know where her friends are–at the farmer’s market telling candidates what they can and can’t do.

Well, as we’ve heard, she was out taking campaign photographs at various locations in town this week. During the work day, mind, not in her ‘free time’. Just more electioneering being paid for by the taxpayers.

Don’t count out Morris yet.She is about town getting her pics in order showing off her accomplishments.Go station, ARC, etc Shes not wasting time campaigning in the dog days of summer. The real campaign starts after labour day.Look for a full assault to our senses.She is after all a master of image, and marketing the name Phyllis Morris.

Ms. Morris has NO standing to take credit for projects such as the ARC and the GO station — those were well in the works long before she stepped into office. If these end up as part of her platform, I do hope that local media will be responsible enough to point that out.

Don’t count on the local media to point this out. Auroran Ron Wallace is already on record of feeling sorry for the negative press Ms. Morris is getting.

fine with me–I don’t want to see or hear her ever again–I don’t believe a word she says and I am sick and tired of her “pat myself on the back” speeches where she really says absolutely nothing of substance. bye bye Phyllis

I hope you are right.
It is interesting to watch her at The Farmers Market as she really has to work to get people to spend time hearing her pitch.
It is the same group and click each week and many have said they will NOT attend the Market because of her.
I feel bad for the people who man booths.
Especially David and Andre.
They are between Jam Freedman and always have the click around.
It must be heck having that negative energy around.
