Mayor Morris Confuses Many With Her Ethical Choices

Posted by auroracitizen on June 26, 2010

So, here’s a question.

If the Mayor spends 2 hours on a Friday afternoon, standing in the hot sun at Yonge and Wellington — telling people about the recently released Aurora Promenade study — should that be considered campaigning?

Does the fact that she drags high-priced help like Neil Garbe along make it Town business? Surely he has something better or more useful to do than hang out with the Mayor promoting a study that already complete.

And you can be sure that Brian Morris – the ever faithful Photographer — was there capturing the activities for the next campaign brochure.

In our opinion — if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck 🙂

But as usual Mayor Phyllis Morris has her own unique  interpretation of the rules — regardless of what common sense would indicate.

Why doesn’t she just do the honourable thing and declare? Oh, then she couldn’t drag high-priced staff along to keep her company.

    This is classic Morris. Not having the guts to declare her candidacy for Mayor because that means her period of FREE advertising is over. Standing at her favourite corner diseminating info about the Promenade Study is nothing but a ruse to mask her real goal of campaigning for Mayor. To think otherwise and give her the benefit of the doubt is obtuse. Who does she think she is fooling?

      She has also been seen and heard hustling the voters on the patio at Jonathans restaurant. She approached my son’s table and asked the patrons if they knew who she was. My son did not indicate if she was quenching her thirst at the time but she was going table to table asking for voter support in the upcoming election. Is she a candidate yet?

    Did town staff setup the canopy at the farmers market for her this weekend? She was quite content to stay under it campaigning during the rain…

    Many of Mayor Morris’ “choices” are questionable, not just the ethical ones, how about the procedural ones. Both MorMac are so fond of calling out Clr Buck on procedural matters, why is she allowed such abuse of the Open Forum part of the agenda. Look at this section of her coveted procedural bylaw;

    Open Forum shall be considered a part of the formal order of business of Council. Any ratepayer of the Town of Aurora is entitled to make a deputation to Council on a matter that is or is not on the Agenda of Council provided the maximum time allotted is five minutes for each delegate and the total time of all delegates for this portion of the Agenda be restricted to twenty minutes.
    By-law 4912-07.C

    Is St. Kitts a ratepayer in Aurora – not as far as I know. If she is why is she not required to identify herself/address.
    Was any person held to five minutes?
    It was well over an hour that open forum continued not 20 minutes as required.

    After over 3 years Morris still can’t chair a meeting to save her life. Hope this is mentioned often during the campaign.
